Chandigarh: Amritpal Singh Mehron, the alleged mastermind in the murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, who had fled to UAE within hours of her killing on June 9, last, had planned her murder about three months ago.

Stating that he had also issued threats to at least two other female social media influencers of Punjab, Bathinda senior superintendent of police, Amneet Kondal said police had already issued a lookout circular against Mehron, 30, a resident of Moga.

However, on examination of his passport details, the police learnt that he had already fled to UAE by taking a flight from Amritsar on June 9 evening itself, the SSP said adding that now authorities would initiate procedure for his deportation.

Stating that Kanchan was strangled to death on June 9, the SSP said that two of Mehron’s associates, Jaspreet Singh, 32, and Nimratjit Singh, 21, residents of Tarn Taran, were nabbed by police on June 13. The accused held that they killed her for uploading ``videos having immoral and vulgar content that hurt the community’s sentiments’’.

Police said Mehron had also warned other influencers against creating ``objectionable content’’.

Stating that Mehron had planned her murder three months ago, the police said that he had also approached Kanchan on the pretext of a promotional event in Bathinda. She left her Ludhiana house informing her mother on June 9 that she was going to Bathinda for an event and lost contact hours later.

In Bathinda, while Mehron drove her car, his two associates, who sat in rear seats, first snatched her two mobile phones and later strangled her to death.
