In the hours and days following 77-year-old Dot Dobbins being struck and killed in a cross walk, Nashville's Germantown community called for changes we are already seeing on the street she took her last steps.

Dobbins walking her dog on 3rd Ave N on Sunday, June 8 when country singer Conner Smith crashed into her, according to Metro Nashville Police. Smith sang at the CMA Fest that weekend.

Metro Council Member Jacob Kupin was one of the voices leading the charge for change, wishing it didn't have to take a life to implement some of these changes which include:

  • Adding "yield" signs on the center line surrounding crosswalks
  • Eliminating obstructions that cause blind spots or impede vision

FOX17 News' Johnny Maffei has heard from several people who knew Dobbins one way or another. They say if this happened to someone else, she would be right there at the memorials fighting for change, too.

Services for Dobbins are scheduled for Wednesday.

Smith has not yet been charged. We reached out to his lawyer who told us he is not doing interviews at this time.
