Police Budget Boost Expected

The Fiji Police Force can expect good news in the upcoming 2025-2026 National Budget this week.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Biman Prasad made the remarks on Saturday when questioned about budget expectations to help combat the growing drug problem in the country.
Earlier this month, Minister for Policing loane Naivalurua highlighted the need for an increased budget to support improvements in essential services, enhance staft capabilities, and continue the ongoing restructuring of the Force.
“Even if we must increase expenditure in this budget a s a domestic policy to counter any adverse impact of the global economic slow down, we are in a strong position,” Mr Prasad said.
“We may have to raise our deficit a little bit; we may have to raise our debt- to – Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio a little bit, but still, it’s better than what we inherited.”
Mr Prasad reiterated that the upcoming budget would be a people’s budget, with a focus on ensuring more support is provided to improve the lives of Fijians.
“Don’t just go by what some of the people sitting in Parliament are saying, barking without facts,” he said.
“There is a lot of positive news for our people and investments.”
