The Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has sentenced two men to five years and four months imprisonment each after they were found guilty of stealing a motorcycle.

According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Hastings Chigalu, the convicted men have been identified as Maliko Ngaika, 37, and Hassan Kalisto, 39.

The court heard that the duo, along with another suspect, Patrick Banda who has pleaded not guilty were implicated in the theft of a motorcycle belonging to a kabaza operator in Area 9, Lilongwe.

In his ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Bracious Kondowe concurred with the prosecution’s request for a stiff sentence to deter others, and handed down the custodial sentence to both Ngaika and Kalisto.

Meanwhile, Patrick Banda continues to stand trial separately, having denied the charges while his co-accused admitted guilt.
