A Talkeetna man was fatally hit by a freight train Tuesday night while driving an ATV near the railroad tracks.
According to an Alaska Railroad news release, the incident occurred at mile 205.5 of the railroad’s main line, south of Montana Creek near mile 92 of the Parks Highway.
The ATV driver was identified as 45-year-old Brian Neudecker. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Neudecker’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage.
The train originated in Anchorage and was headed to Fairbanks. Railroad officials remind the public that the rail right-of-way, which extends 100 feet on either side of the track, is not open to the public.
