Suspect arrested for shooting at Las Vegas detective investigating burglary series
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A detective with Las Vegas Metro Police was shot at while investigating a burglary series in the southwest valley.
Metro Police said the shooting happened Friday at 5:21 p.m. in the 8300 block of Canvas Court, near Russell Road and Durango Drive. The detective was inside an unmarked vehicle wearing plain clothes.
While parked at a curb, a vehicle parked next to the detective. A woman could be heard asking if there was anyone in the car.
The vehicle would make a U-turn and park in front of a house on the same block. Police said that vehicle and home was unrelated to the burglary investigation.
A while later, the detective observed a man, later identified as Kye Jackson, 22, standing outside the home, paying particular attention to the detective’s car. Police said Jackson started to approach the detective.
Worried that his location would be compromised, the detective started to drive away. Jackson then fired at the vehicle multiple times, documents said.
Police were able to get Jackson into custody after establishing a perimeter. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges related to discharging a gun into an occupied structure and attempted murder involving a deadly weapon.
