June 25, 2025:
A 41 year old man from Sioux City, Iowa has been convicted of first-degree murder in a 2023 stabbing death in Dakota Dunes.
Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales was found guilty June 25, 2025, by a Union County jury. The verdict carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison when he is sentenced.
Jordan “Jordy” Beardshear, 23, was found deceased at an apartment in Dakota Dunes on April 25, 2023. The defendant was later apprehended in Mexico.
“This verdict delivers justice to Jordan and her family,” said Attorney General Marty Jackley. “This was a brutal and senseless act of violence and the jury’s decision affirms that the defendant will be held fully accountable. Thank you to the investigators, prosecutors, and witnesses who ensured that the truth was heard, and justice was served.”
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Sioux City Police Department, South Sioux City Police Department, North Sioux City Police Department and the United States Marshall’s Service investigated the case. The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that the state Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and other law enforcement agencies are asking for the public’s help in locating Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales, 39, of Sioux City, Iowa, who is wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred last week in Union County.
An active no-bond arrest warrant for murder in the first degree has been issued for Castellanos-Rosales.
Jordan Beardshear, 23, of Dakota Dunes was discovered deceased Wednesday (April 26, 2023) in a residence in Dakota Dunes. The DCI has determined her death to be a result of a homicide. A young child was found safe by law enforcement.
“We are seeking the public’s help in finding this individual,” said Attorney General Jackley. “Please do not approach this individual who is considered dangerous. We request you contact law enforcement immediately with any helpful information.”

Agencies involved in this investigation include the DCI and Union County Sheriff’s Office.
APRIL 27, 2023:
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that the state Division of Criminal Investigation and local authorities are investigating a suspicious death that occurred yesterday (April 26, 2023) in Union County.
DCI officials say one body was found and no arrests have been made. The public is not in danger.
“A young child was found safe by law enforcement,” said Attorney General Jackley.
