Beehive box thief remains at large
BONNERS FERRY — Over the last two weeks, approximately 48 wooden beehive boxes have been stolen from the old millsite owned by Idaho Forest Group on Riverside Road, a robbery valued at approximately $7,800, according to Bonners Ferry Police.
Leading the investigation is Sgt. Scott Davis, who said the boxes are stamped with the owner's brand, “10-8.”
BFPD was first alerted of the ongoing thefts on June 13. Chief Willie Cowell said there are no known suspects at this time.
“I think the way this is going to be, we’re going to have to get leads through the public,” Cowell said.
The department has called for a broad search, issuing press releases throughout eastern Washington and western Montana.
Last year, similar bee box thefts took place in Bonner and Kootenai counties. Police have not determined if the Bonners Ferry theft has any connection.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of these boxes or possible suspect information is asked to contact non-emergency dispatch at 208-267-3151 and can reference case number 02-2025-00204.
