Chile eyes extending run in Futsal League

Chile eyes extending run in Futsal League

Reigning champions Chile FC go into this weekend’s round of the top-flight Futsal Namibia Premier League with hopes of extending their impressive run at the summit of the log.

Chile currently tops the league standings with 53 points and are set for a stern test against fifth-placed Ballers, who have amassed 33 points from 17 matches so far this season.

The two will square off at 15h00 at Windhoek Showground tomorrow and victory for Ballers would boost their ambitions of climbing the table and closing the gap on the leaders.

Chile head coach Mefflint de Waal acknowledged the difficult challenge his side faces but remains optimistic about securing maximum points.

“It’s always tough facing any opponent as the league draws to a close. Every team becomes more focused and aggressive because no one wants to drop points at this stage. We know what’s expected of us this weekend if we want to keep our title hopes alive and that’s to get the points,” he said.

De Waal added that judging from the team’s recent training sessions and the positive mood in camp, he is confident his charges will rise to the occasion.

In other matches scheduled for tomorrow at the Windhoek Showgrounds, Mavericks will kick off proceedings against 7 Kings at 14h00, followed by a clash between JAC FC and Boston Madrid at 16h00. At 17h00, Ragazzi FC will take on Demia FC

X-MEN FC will then square off against Flying V at 18h00, before WHK Futsal and Patriot battle it out at 19h00. Wrapping up the weekend’s fixtures will be a tie between WIAS and Quality FC. Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, Greyeno Rusberg, media manager at Futsal Namibia, promised fans a thrilling day of futsal action as the season edges closer to conclusion.

“Fans can expect to be entertained this weekend. With only a few matches remaining, the competition is heating up and every game counts. It’s the kind of atmosphere where anything can happen,” he said.
