CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. – Chelan County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the need for backcountry rescues, highlighting a report last week about a woman who suffered an injury while hiking the enchantments and could not walk.
The 32-year-old woman was from Seattle, and fell while hiking, injuring her shoulder. Unable to walk, she had to reach out for help.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office reported that, despite an incoming windstorm, they were able to fly to the Perfection Lake area and contact the injured hiker.
They loaded her on the helicopter and brought her to an ambulance at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery.
Sheriff Mike Morrison reported that this, along with the ongoing search for Travis Decker, are examples of the need for backcountry rescue.
