Three young people were arrested following a large fire that tore through a terraced house in Barrow on Tuesday night (June 24).

Emergency services were called to Brown Street just before 11pm after reports of flames and thick smoke coming from a property.

Two neighbouring homes that shared the same roof were also evacuated. The full extent of the damage is still to be revealed.

Firefighters from five Cumbria stations - Barrow, Ulverston, Walney, Millom and Broughton-in-Furness - tackled the blaze using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

Speaking at the time of the incident, a spokesperson for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: "Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service firefighters worked through the night to tackle a fire in a derelict terraced property in Barrow-in-Furness.

"The service was called at 10.59pm on 24 June to a fire on Brown Street, with crews from Barrow, Ulverston, Walney, Millom and Broughton-in-Furness attending and using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 1.08am."

A spokesperson for Cumbria police said: "Police have arrested three young people on suspicion of arson and burglary following a fire at a property on Brown Street, Barrow on Wednesday 26 June.
