Two people have been hospitalised, one with potentially serious injuries, after a single-car crash on a motorway in Warwickshire. Emergency services rushed to the M40 just after 9am on Friday morning.

Air and land ambulances carrying paramedics attended the scene between junctions 15 and 16. Two people treated by crews had been in the same car - they were later taken to different hospitals.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision on the M40 between junction 15 and 16 in Rowington at 9.07am and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

"On arrival crews found two men, the first of whom, the passenger, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency driving conditions.

"The second man, the driver, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to Warwick Hospital for further treatment."

Warwickshire Police posted on social media to warn drivers to avoid the area.

It states: "Emergency services are in attendance at a collision on the M40, J15-J16. Both sides of the carriageway are currently closed.

"Motorists are asked to please take an alternative route where possible. We will issue any updates when available."

According to traffic reporting site Inrix the motorway is back open. We've asked Warwickshire Police for an update.
