Hospital catches fire at North Carolina coast, officials say
Fire reported on roof of Carteret Health Care in Morehead City
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WBTV) - A fire broke out an eastern North Carolina hospital on Thursday, officials said.
Carteret Health Care in Morehead City caught fire around 8:45 p.m. on July 17.
When Morehead City firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from the roof of a chiller room near a loading dock. The fire was put out within 20 minutes of dispatch and crews remained on scene for approximately two more hours.
The fire appeared to have been the result of construction work on the hospital roof.
Firefighters said the fire was not near any patient rooms and nobody was hurt.
The hospital posted a statement on social media that thanked first responders for their “swift response.”
“We thank our staff, first responders, and the community for their quick action, teamwork, and support,” the hospital wrote. “Operations at Carteret Health Care remain uninterrupted, and we will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our patients, visitors, and staff.”
Carteret Health Care’s hospital has 135 beds and is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. The hospital is right off the North Carolina coast, along the Highway 70 corridor.
