SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) — South Bend Police continue to investigate a crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist early Saturday morning.

It happened around 4:45 a.m., just south of Ireland Road.

Police located 61-year-old Grant Burkett of South Bend, suffering from serious injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Burkett was traveling westbound on the Bypass and attempted to take the northbound exit onto Michigan Street.

Evidence suggests the motorcycle failed to complete the curve and ran off the roadway before crashing on Michigan Street.

Northbound traffic on Michigan Street was blocked off for several hours while police investigated.
