Ayra Starr Becomes First African Artist to Earn RIAA Latin Diamond Certification

Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first African artist to receive a Latin Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The feat was accomplished through her global hit collaboration “Santa” with Jamaican producer Rvssian and Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro. The song, which has amassed over 35 million streams in the U.S. Latin market, earned the coveted certification—marking Ayra Starr’s growing global footprint.
This makes Ayra Starr the second African artist to receive a Latin plaque from the RIAA, following Rema’s Platinum certification for his song “Bubalu” with Feid and others.
“Santa” has also enjoyed commercial success across Latin America and Europe. It is certified multi-Platinum in Spain and Mexico, topped the Spanish Singles Chart, and peaked at No. 2 in Colombia, Ecuador, and across Central America.
Ayra Starr’s latest achievement adds to her already record-breaking year, which includes becoming the first Nigerian female singer to hit 1 billion YouTube views and crossing 5 million Spotify followers, a first for an African female artist.
